Project positioning
The starting point in the E-PRICE project are the state-of-the-art results from the power system restructuring sector (concerning both physical power system layer and its economy), and the stateof-the-art results of distributed control system theory, optimization, and computing, with the emphasis on receding horizon principles in control. It is fair to say that there has been a limited transfer of knowledge between the state-of-the-art results in these fields. The E-PRICE project recognizes this yet vastly unexploited area as an extremely promising research field.
The baseline idea
Formulating power system restructuring problems in a suitable control system framework offers new insights and has potential for development of novel scientific values with large societal impacts. Furthermore, such an approach is a necessity in our desire to define the minimum required interfaces and ICT infrastructure for information exchange between the active participants in a power system.
The interdisciplinary character of the E-Price project is illustrated in the figure below, which also indicates the role of price signals in the intersection of the fields.
